About CHS

Carlinville High School is located in Carlinville, Illinois. The town is approximately 50 miles south of Springfield, Illinois and 65 miles northeast of St. Louis, Mo. It is the county seat of Macoupin County, and is considered an outlying part of the Metro-East region of the greater St. Louis metropolitan area. Our proximity to Springfield and St. Louis provides students with many opportunities throughout the school year.

We are a school of approximately 440 ninth through twelfth grade students. We are proud to have been recognized by U.S. News and World Report receiving Silver Medal recognition in 2009, 2013, 2014, 2015 and Bronze Medal Recognition in 2016. School staff and parents are very proud of the excellent educational opportunities that are provided at Carlinville High School. Two mottos seem to summarize what we are about. First, the motto on our Mission and Goals posters is “Students First.” Second, on our school letterhead, as well as other places on campus, is the motto “Excellence…A Carlinville Tradition.” We have always taken pride in our commitment to academic excellence. We strive, as our mission states, “to guide students to become lifelong learners with skills, knowledge, attitudes and virtues to benefit themselves in an ever-changing world.” The programs and courses offered here help us aspire to that mission. We require our students to earn 26 academic credits, most of which are in the core classes. Beyond the core, we offer a robust variety of electives that meet the various needs of our students. We offer AP accredited courses in Chemistry, Biology, Calculus, English Language, English Literature, U.S. History and Psychology. Through our partnership with Lewis and Clark Community College, we offer 24 dual credit courses (worth over 80 credits) in the core areas, including English, Math, Social Science, and Science, as well as in our Career and Technology Education areas, including Computers, Agriculture, Welding, Manufacturing, and Family and Consumer Science. We maintain a commitment to fine arts, as we also offer courses in French, Spanish, Art, Band and Chorus.

We are also proud of the accomplishments of our students outside the classroom as well. In the recent past many of our athletic and academic teams, as well as a number of our fine art and career-tech programs, have been recognized for their success at both local and state levels. CHS offers a wide variety of opportunities to students through co-curricular and extra-curricular activities. We encourage students to become involved and have experiences that make them a well-rounded individual.

Parents at CHS are actively involved through their participation in various booster groups. We welcome all of our parents and staff to join and/or support their organization of choice, and we appreciate the ways in which they enrich our school through support of co-curricular and extracurricular activities. Through the time and efforts of our many volunteers, we are able to support various programs.
