STUDENT COUNCIL
The Student Council has had a busy semester thus far. They are having food drive competition in conjunction with CNB among the Goals classes. The class that collects the most items will be rewarded with treats. As in the past, the Student Council and FFA will provide 50 Thanksgiving meals to be donated to the Food Pantry. The Student Council has plans for a game night, volleyball competition, and other fundraising opportunities.
FFA
It has been another busy and successful fall for the Carlinville FFA. We have participated in the Horse, Forestry, Agronomy and Ag Sales CDE's. Several members were able to attend the Leadership Training School and Farm Progress show this year as well. 10 members from Carlinville were able to attend the 96th annual National FFA Convention in Indianapolis, IN. This year over 70,000 FFA members and guests were present at the convention. While there, members were able to learn new leadership skills, meet with people from around the country and explore careers in the agriculture industry. We have also been finishing up the restoration of a people mover that will be purchased by the Macoupin Agricultural Antique Association for use at their spring and fall festivals. On Tuesday, November 14 our chapter hosted an Autumn Festival for younger children. Everyone had a great time. Lastly we partnered with the High School Student Council to purchase, pack and deliver 50 complete Thanksgiving meals to the Carlinville Food Pantry.
FCCLA/Foods/Family and Consumer Sciences
FCCLA was honored to create a menu, grocery shop, plan, and cook a fantastic breakfast for our Veteran's Day Assembly.
CHS Foods and Intro to FCS classes visited LLCC for a tour of the culinary institute and hands-on work in the culinary lab. A pasta luncheon was prepared by LLCC chefs while demonstrating the process. LLCC bakery and pastry chef demonstrated how to make eclairs, followed by students making their own creations! Culinary and hospitality pathways were presented to students, as well as the other trades opportunities within the LLCC Workforce Center.
On Thursday October 26, Hibachi Boy, John Goergens, visited Mrs. Mullen’s foods class at Carlinville High School to talk about entrepreneurship, culinary skills, and doing what you love in life.
The Foods class completed their knife skills lab and food art project. They did a fantastic job communicating and teamwork…which is even more important than the end product, but they came up with great ideas and executed the plan!
